A much better idea is to clean it thoroughly and regularly right from the beginning. This makes the job of cleaning, which can be a real chore, quicker and easier to do. Much easier to do small amounts regularly than one industrial sized clean up. Even if you have decided to keep the car indefinitely, it is much nicer to sit in a clean car. Giving your car a good clean on the outside will also help to reduce the chance of your car rusting, as well as helping to retain that showroom shine. It is worth giving the car a good wash underneath with a power washer if you have one to get rid of any loose bits of dirt. A good polish every six weeks or so will also help maintain the water proof properties of your paintwork. Any damage to the outside of the car should be corrected as soon as possible. Dent repairs are often very easy to fix, as are bumper repairs, vandal scratch repairs and interior trim repairs. Leaving them may result in your car rusting at the damaged points if metal and having them repaired makes the car look much better. Windscreen repairs should also be done as soon as possible. If you have a chip in the windscreen, they can often be repaired fairly simply and there are a number of companies who may be able to do this in your driveway. If the damage has been done within the area that the windscreen blade wipes; there may be a chance that your vehicle is illegal to drive and would certainly not pass an MOT. The inside of the car can be difficult to keep clean, especially if you have kids or you have been in a dirty or muddy environment. However, you should try as much as possible to clean the interior regularly. Clean off any spillages as soon as you can as it is a much easier job to do before the spillage dries. If you have any tears or damage to the seat, try to get it repaired as soon as possible, rather than allowing it to deteriorate further. Car leather seat repairs can be slightly more expensive, but are well worth repairing to maintain that stylish look.
Maintaining proper tyre pressures and also checking the oil and water levels are all small jobs which have an important bearing on the life of the car. Under pressure tyres make the car run less efficiently and can be dangerous. Low water and oil levels can not only lead to overheating, but can impair the efficient running of the engine.
Have the car serviced at the appropriate intervals. You will find that replacing any worn filters and having the oil changed, will not only make the car more efficient, but will also give you that extra confidence. Keep all repair and service receipts, as these are proof that your car has been cared for by the right people.
